Other than Ian Brown teaming up again with Mani to basically rejig his FEAR hit, Lavelle curiously sticks to giving a gentle beat as a backdrop to new boy Richard File's hushed vocals. The songs are all fine bittersweet harmonies, but most drag on far too long. Tellingly, the similar-styled South offer the best track by a mile. ——————————————————————————————————1/16— Planet Sound is moving — see page 408 R U a text Flirt? Do they take advantage? Oh 9es. Ferocious doesn't even begin to cover it. They may throw Dick Dale-ish surf guitar, Transplants' Rob's rapping and furious hardcore into the mix, but the mood is always an intensely driven no- frills rattling holler. More importantly, it's all singalong. What can go wrong? Plenty, it seems... The first thing you notice is the total lack of any extras. The second is how dark and grimy the lighting is, which for a technicolour band like The Music, is a daft decision. Nor is there enough focus on how prodigious all four of the band are, especially guitarist Adam. For all that, it's a great, celebratory gig.
