P176 Teletext 176 Aug30 21:12:47 ——————— ——————————— WITH: SMITH I went to ECTS this week. For those less "in the biz" than me and all my impossibly fashionable, too-cool-for school, journo-shaped buddies, that's the European Computer Trade Show. I think. It's basically like E3 but in England instead of somewhere in America (in thedesert or something). I say "basically"because the similarity stops at them both using the letter "E". ——————————————————————————————————1/6——Game Central is moving — see page 408New Games For Your Mobile-p657Game test Charts TV Guide Kids
P176 Teletext 176 Aug30 21:17:27 ——————— ——————————— WITH: SMITH E3 is the major event on the videogamescalendar. It's where all the big games get announced, where all the medium- sized games get announced and where allthe tiny little games get announced. It's where the US developers make their announcements, where all the European developers make their announcements and where all the Japanese developers make their announcements. Well, except those horse-dating games. ——————————————————————————————————2/6—— Chart attack 178New Games For Your Mobile-p657Game test Charts TV Guide Kids
P176 Teletext 176 Aug30 21:11:47 ——————— ——————————— WITH: SMITH By comparison to E3, ECTS is where nobody at all announces anything at alland the beer is so expensive my wallet actually died before I did. All the games on show have been seen before, possibly months before, and nobody learns anything. It costs a lot of money for a whole bunch of people to stop work for a weekand stand in a big room wishing they were in the pub. ——————————————————————————————————3/6—— e-mail us: gamecentral@teletext.co.uk NEW GENERATION PHONE? P176 Teletext 176 Aug30 21:11:45 ——————— ——————————— WITH: SMITH E3 is, by all reasonable accounts, a massive slice of neon-lit, thinly- carpeted hell, hugely overpopulated by whooping, bandanna-wearing Americans, semi-naked munters and more games than there are stars in the sky. Or, indeed, in space. Once again, using my highly attuned andstrictly patented "Immense and CrushingStupidity-O-Meter" I have discovered a massive flaw in all this business. ——————————————————————————————————4/6—— This week's reader feature 179 NEW GENERATION PHONE? P176 Teletext 176 Aug30 21:14:16 ——————— ——————————— WITH: SMITH ECTS is a huge waste of time and money because it is so under-used. E3 is a huge waste of time and money because it is so over-used. Why not — now here comes the science bit — use ECTS to make more announcements and E3 to make fewer? Why doesn't the European side of the industry use the European show to make their big announcements and the Americans use the American show? ——————————————————————————————————5/6—— e-mail us: gamecentral@teletext.co.uk NEW GENERATION PHONE? P176 Teletext 176 Aug30 21:12:26 ——————— ——————————— WITH: SMITH Instead of the whole world desperately trying to rush their game demos for E3 and then getting a million journalists to see a million games and then die in a sweaty hell, why not spread the load? Then games would be better thanks to easier deadlines, mags would be better because of less insane madness and ECTS would be less of a complete and total waste of everybody's time and money. Imagine that. ——————————————————————————————————6/6—— What's topping? 178IS LOVE IN THE AIR FOR YOU? p148Game test Charts TV Guide Kids
