P290 Teletext 290 Aug30 21:1,:10      1 CUSTOMER PROTECTION REQUIREMENTS All companies wishing to advertise flights or package holidays on Teletext must offer one of the following forms of customer protection: ATOL (Air Travel Organiser's Licence) Any flights (or packages which include air travel) are protected by an ATOL Protected Operator.If your Tour Operator ceases to trade you will either be refunded by ATOL or repatriated if abroad at the time. ABTA (Assoc of British Travel Agents) If an ABTA member becomes insolvent then the ABTA fund is used to refund the customer. 5/20 >>>>
P290 Teletext 290 Aug30 21:11:46     AGENTS FOR ATOL PROTECTED OPERATORS ATOL safeguards air passengers/package holiday customers from losing money on tickets bought through travel firms. It is managed by the Civil Aviation Authority(CAB). If you are making a booking with an Agent 4 ATOL Protected Operator, this means that the retail agent is acting as an authorised agent for ATOL holder direct. For full customer protection we also require that Agents 4 ATOL Protected Operators advertising on Teletext have independent bonding or customer protection cg.ABTA,TTB,TTG membership. 6/20 >>>>
P290 Teletext 290 Aug30 21:12:25   X  Other types of customer protection TTA (TRAVEL TRUST ASSOCIATION) The customer's money is held in a trust account and not released until the holiday has been received. If a TTA member becomes insolvent,the customer's money will be held by the TTA and used to pay for the holiday TGTG (THE GLOBAL TRAVEL GROUP) The TGTG is an association of independent travel agents. You are dealing with one company, namely the Global Travel Group. Should an outlet fail, then liability rests with the TGTG. 7/20 >>>>

Companies who advertise package holidays which do not include air travel also have to be members of an approved body. These include ABTA,AITO, CPR,YEA,PSA,FRO & ABTOT. These bodies are also responsible for refunding customers should the operator or retailer you are dealing with become insolvent. There are exceptions to the rule! Companies who are selling accommodation only are not subject to any customer protection requirements.Also transport facilities e.g.Car Hire. 8/20 >>>>

Any additional costs must be clearly stipulated on the advert with the costs involved. The most common charge associated with holidays is a Credit or debit card charge. It is usually shown as a percentage or a 'per person' charge. 9/20 >>>>
P290 Teletext 290 Aug30 21:11:10     2 PRICE INFORMATION CONTINUED However in instances where no particular date is mentioned with the holiday, advertisers will use the abbreviation 'prices from' to donate that you should expect to pay anything from the price stated on the screen upward. Occupancy level.Holiday prices are Fbased on 2 adults sharing for 7 nights. If the prices are not based on 2 adults sharing, then this will be shown with the abbreviation - 3SHE,4SHE etc. For a single person supplements may apply. 10/20 >>>>

P290 Teletext 290 Aug30 21:17:28     3 STAR RATINGS There is no one organisation that oversees the allocation of star ratings depending on the country that you are intending to travel to there are variou different clarifications systems for holidays accommodation. Some countries use a government controlled grading system & others use independent bodies. It is worth checking with the tour operator that you are booking with, what classification the accommodation is. If the operator has given their own rating it may well be advisable to check what standards the hotel has had to attain to be awarded those ratings. 12/20 >>>>
