Hachani, who led the FIS to victory in elections in 1991, was also deprived of his civil rights for three years, thus banning him from politics. However, as he has already spent five years in jail, he is effectively a free man, and no longer considered a threat. The inebriated pachyderm goes from house to house and village to village in search of the locally-made brew.
