The package includeds a video, the Highway Code, a 300-page workbook and application forms for both the written and practical parts of the driving test "Road accidents are the single biggest cause of accidental death for 17-21 year olds in the UK" so Edmund King, RAE head of campaigns. P438 CEEFAX 1 438 Tue 08 Jul 19:22/29       L-FILES: LEARNER DRIVER TRAINING PACK Learner Driver fact file: ■ More than 2 million young drivers are killed or injured every year on European roads. ■ 1,300 young people were killed and 125,000 injured on UK roads last year. ■ Young drivers represent 10% of licence holders in the UK, but are involved in more than 25% of accidents. ■ Since the introduction of the written theory test in July 1996, there has been a 45% drop in the number of candidates coming to take the test. P438 CEEFAX 1 438 Tue 08 Jul 19:45/14       L-FILES: LEARNER DRIVER TRAINING PACK Learner Driver fact file: ■ Almost half of test candidates who sit the written theory test fail it. ■ Road accidents are the single biggest cause of accidental death for 17-21 year olds in the UK ■ More than 90% of UK motorists under the age of 25 consider themselves to be safe drivers. ■ But more than 60% describe other young drivers as speeders and more than 70% think their peers deliberately flout traffic laws according to whim and mood.
