There was some thunder reported in the last week with 28mm of rain falling in just 15 minutes at South Kensington on the 28th. World Almanac Severe thunderstorms moving out of South Dakota across Iowa on this day in 1986 produced high winds which derailed a freight train near Boone, IA. Sixteen cars on the train fell into the Dis Moines river. The thunderstorms also spawned a number of tornadoes.
