P623 CEEFAX 1 623 Mon 28 Jul 01:43/41 ————————————————————————————— HOT GADGETS 23 July ——————————————————————— 1/11 Hot Gadgets, presented by Carol Vorderman, puts some of the world's greatest gadgets through their paces to help you decide if they live up to their hype. Every week a team of three gadget roadtesters try out the gadgets at home and then tell the studio audience if they think theyWre Hot or Not. GADGETS TESTED: Truth Phone, Entertrainer, Natural Alarm Clock, Anti-Noise Headphones. BBC1 601BBC2 602ITV 603Ch4 604Front page 100Sport 300Weather 400Education Value Accents TV Links
P623 CEEFAX 1 623 Mon 28 Jul 01:52/11 ————————————————————————————— HOT GADGETS 23 July ——————————————————————— 2/11TRUTH PHONE A telephone that also claims to be a lie detector. It analyses subtle changes in the voice that could be caused by the stress of lying and then gives a digital readout. A low readout means your caller is telling the truth;a high readout may mean the caller is being deceitful. This week's gadget testers didn't find the phone very easy to use. It firstly needs to be calibrated by asking your caller questions they will definitely answer truthfully. P623 CEEFAX 1 623 Mon 28 Jul 01:52/24 ————————————————————————————— HOT GADGETS 23 July ——————————————————————— 3/11The phone also only works on one word answers so it can be hard keeping a conversation going without being caughtout! The phone helped one tester spot a liar so voted it Hot, but overall it was voted Not Hot by a majority of two to one. For more information contact: Counter Spy Shop on telephone: 0171 408 0287. NATURAL ALARM CLOCK A natural alarm clock which uses light to send you to sleep and to wake you up more gently. P623 CEEFAX 1 623 Mon 28 Jul 01:54/50 ————————————————————————————— HOT GADGETS 23 July ——————————————————————— 4/11The clock creates a 30 minute sunset to send you to sleep and then a 30 minute dawn which is meant to wake you naturally. The body's own clock is triggered by light and the natural alarm clock mimics the way that we would be woken naturally by the dawn, so we should be ready to open our eyes as though we'd been woken by the sun. This really suited two of our testers who said they felt really good after using the clock and as though they'd been sleeping for ages. The third thought it felt like waking up under a floodlight. P623 CEEFAX 1 623 Mon 28 Jul 01:51/11 ————————————————————————————— HOT GADGETS 23 July ——————————————————————— 5/11They voted the alarm clock Hot by a majority of two to one. For more information contact: Outside In (Cambridge Ltd) telephone: 01954 211955. ENTERTRAINER The entertrainer connects an exercise bike to the television and is meant as an aid to exercise. It measures how fast youWre cycling and if the number of revs per minute is above a critical level it keeps the TV picture on the screen, so you watch as you exercise. P623 CEEFAX 1 623 Mon 28 Jul 01:51/37 ————————————————————————————— HOT GADGETS 23 July ——————————————————————— 6/11But if your RPM drops too low the box of electronics attached to the bike makes the TV picture fade as an incentive to keep on peddling. The testers thought it was a great idea, but all claimed to be too lazy to keep exercising throughout an episode of EastEnders, so they voted it Not Hot. The Entertrainer is still a prototype at the time of broadcast and is not commercially available. P623 CEEFAX 1 623 Mon 28 Jul 00:42/54 ————————————————————————————— HOT GADGETS 23 July ——————————————————————— 7/11ANTI-NOISE HEADPHONES Headphones that claim to cut out the unwanted sounds of the outside world. A microphone in each ear of the headphones picks up the unwanted external noise and creates a mirror image of that noise which has the effect of cancelling it out. The gadget testers thought the headphones would be good for travellingon aeroplanes. They were originally designed for pilots in order to cut down cabin noise and enable them to hear air-traffic control more clearly. P623 CEEFAX 1 623 Mon 28 Jul 01:42/21 ————————————————————————————— HOT GADGETS 23 July ——————————————————————— 8/11All the testers thought it cut out the right type of noise (including, for one tester, a flatmate's snoring!) but that it affected the quality of the sounds they were listening to. They voted the anti-noise headphones Hot by a majority or two Hots to one Not. For more information contact: Sennheiser Electronics on telephone: 014y4 551551.
