P111 CEEFAX 111 Fri 23 Dec 22:26/21 The bank workers' union has said that more than 2,500 banks were closed or seriously affected by a protest by counter staff. The union, which had told its members to walk out at noon, said the banks themselves had closed down many sub- offices and transferred staff to parentoffices to keep them open. But the Banking Information Service said only 110 out of more than 11,260 "Big Five" bank branches in England and Wales had closed at noon. The workers were protesting about the loss of a half-day Christmas holiday.
