Former UVF terrorist Billy Hutchinson — jailed in 1975 for his part in the murder of two Catholics — was leading the delegation from the Progressive Unionist Party, said to have the ear of the UVF terror group. Mr Ervine was previously jailed for 11 years for transporting a bomb. He was joined by the Progressive Unionist Party's prisons spokesman William Smith, jailed in 1972 for attempted murder. The UDP team was led by Lisburn Councillor Garry McMichael, whose father was murdered when he was a UDA commander. The Progressive Unionist Party and Ulster Democratic Party entered exploratory dialogue with officials six days after Sinn Fein.
