A former Palestinian peace negotiator, Haidar Abdel Shafi, hosted a meeting overnight of senior PLO officials and leaders of Hamas and Islamic Jihad. An uneasy calm has returned, but graffiti which appeared overnight reflects the feelings of hostility toward the Palestinian authorities. Outside the city, an Arab youth was shot dead by Israeli troops when protestors attacked the checkpoint leading to an Israeli settlement.  Next News Diary Main News TV/Radio
