Deputy US Energy Secretary Bill White defended the US move despite criticism from Russia over "exaggerated" media coverage. The size of the spill is still unknown but Mr White said between 100,000 and two million barrels of oil was leaked from a pipeline. Environmentalists say it is a major catastrophe but Russian remain firm that the spill can be contained.  Nat Trust Read Hear CmntyInfo Religion

Oil companies were held partly to blame for the rapid decline in the number of the bears. Some companies had been carrying out exploratory operations in areas which were critical for the survival of the bears. Environmentalists estimate that the grizzly bear population has dwindled to around 800 compared to 6,000 previously.  Nat Trust Read Hear CmntyInfo Religion
