Obviously the team is utterly incapable of contending with the hostile bowling so why not just play negatively and wait for the easier ball. New coach Duncan Fletcher evidently does not have the answer, the team needs a coach who is capable of leading by example. The top nine South African batsmen avergage more than Mark Butcher and he yet still keeps his place in the side. Steve James has topped the averages for the last four years and his reward: two late call-ups. Get rid of the old school management now and bring in the likes of Ian Botham and Dermot Reeve. But there was no sign of the grand reception or public honour his achievements surely merited. Or is it that we just love losers? After all, we do have plenty of them. The way I see it, rugby league consists of one team running into the other team six times and vice versa until one of them drops the ball. And then they start again. It ranks alongside cricket as the most boring sport in this country and that's why hardly anyone watches it.
