P439 CEEFAX 1 439 Thu 02 Dec 19:26/12       RAILTRACK SLAMMED IN SAFETY REPORT Railtrack has shown "basic failures" in maintaining railway lines to a safe standard, a report from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) concluded. The HSE's chief railway inspector said he also had very serious concerns over the privatised rail firms' record on trains running through red signals. The annual Railway Safety Report does not cover the Paddington rail disaster. The findings, which echo criticisms voiced by the rail regulator's report last week, brought fresh condemnation from rail safety experts.
