The move will cut about 10% of its R&D staff by 2001, with 300 jobs going at its Alderley Park site in Cheshire and 150 at Charnwood in Leicestershire. It comes after the merger of the UK's Zeneca group and Sweden's Astra. The group announced in 1998 that it would be axing about 6,000 jobs as partof a plan to save £690m.
