Some goods may be tarnished or slight seconds, but make no mistake, you'll be getting the deal of the century, honest This week's star lot is the 'new' Fun Lovin' Criminals album — eleven top tunes, including three, yes THREE "exclusive new tracks" (OK, they're all covers, but who's counting)? And lest we forget the FOUR Scooby Snacks B-sides. Don't you just love the silly season? ————————— By Chris Charles ———————————— Showbiz 566 Pop Quiz 562 Top 40 565 Top 40 Lottery Main menu Showbiz

Scooby Snacks is turned into a laid- back schmooze-fest, with added Spanish guitar licks and while the toned-down chorus loses some of its impact, it works a treat. By contrast, Bombin' The L becomes an up-tempo rockabilly boogie, complete with whistling train, while 10CC's I'm Not In Love goes swingbeat as Huey fails to hit all the right notes. ————————— By Chris Charles ———————————— Showbiz 566 Pop Quiz 562 Top 40 565 Top 40 Lottery Main menu Showbiz

The pair hook up for a rendition of Sinatra's Summer Wind & the distinctive styles just about complement each other Old songs by Climax Blues Band and Ozzy Osborne also figure and fans will know the rest, which is why they're unlikely to be hoodwinked into buying this. This is the archetypal boy next door made good — America's answer to Robbie Williams, complete with unbridled cheek and the cheeky grin to get away with it Big Willie's style is not for the purist and the singles are a good indicator of what to find, with the poignant Afro Angel and the rebirth of Pump Me Up the only real high points. With any luck he'll go bald, so he can call his next album Willennium Dome. ————————— By Chris Charles ———————————— Showbiz 566 Pop Quiz 562 Top 40 565 Top 40 Lottery Main menu Showbiz

Unlike many of its contemporaries, the DJs aren't flagged up as the selling point — in fact you'll find Richard Evans and Orbital's Paul Hartnoll buried at the bottom of the credits. Evans takes on the banging role, with classics from van Dyk, Underworld and Seven Cities, while Hartnoll goes more vocal, with highlights including Get Get Down and Rendez-Vu. At last, a "Best Ever" album that's worth every penny and guaranteed to light up weary, brandy-soaked eyes at the end of the Queen's Speech. Nat King Cole, Frank and Nancy, The Walker Brothers, Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey, Dean Martin, Judy Garland... get the picture? In fact it's so good I'm going to keep it for myself. The opening track from the brilliant Rhythm and Stealth, Dusted is a dark, relentless smooth groove that will doubtless be too cool for the masses. Vibrant rap star Roots is the special guest whose addictive vocal style immediately lets you know who's boss as rhythms pulse and keyboards bounce. The hunt for the alternative Xmas No 1 ends here. I happen to think A*Teens are the guiding light to lead us into the next century and the original was far inferior. Nurse! My medication, if you'd be so kind.
