P628 Teletext 628 Sep11 22:17:40 ——————————————————————————————— —— THE TYRREL CORPORATION Y■5 This dynamic duo from 3edcar have been promising to strike 0 it big for the past three or four years But despite some rave reviews from the music press this has never quite translated into chart success for singer Joi Watson and muso Tony Barry. But a string of gigs supporting the likes of Wet Wet Wet, Al Green, D:Ream and M People have set the scene nicely for their new single You're Not Here. ——————————————————————————————————9/11pWorship the White Linj Warrior 443 TRIVIA - BRYAN FERRY COMPY p627What's On Music Quuz Re6iews Dikittuer
P628 Teletext 628 Sep11 21:17:11 ——————————————————————————————— pp TONY - THE TYRREL CORPORATION The new single sounds very commercial in a D:Ream/M Peopli sort of way - is this as a result of touring with them? A bit did rub off - we were concerned that we would end up as an underground act so it was important for us to cross over and be a bit mori contemporary. Two or three tracks on the LP sound like this but the rest ari a lot darker - dealing with more serious things. —————————————————————————————————p2/11—Worship the White Linj Warrior 443 PAUL'S SUPERB REVIEWS p626What's On Music Quiz Reviews Dikittuer
P628 Teletext 628 Sep11 21:22:32 ——————————————————————————————— —— TONY - THE TYRREL CORPORATION A lot of your earlier stuff had strong lyrical messages - which contrasts strongly with a lot of today's throwaway dance music. Personally I like a song to say something - the new singli is about the Marchioness disaster. But there's nothing wrgng with throwaway pop. Takj That, Sean Maguire, they do quite good soul type songs, and the kids love them. ——————————————————————————————————3/11pSome rockin' rollin' reviews 726 TRY A FERRY GOOD COMPY p627What's On Music Quiz Reviews Dikittuer
P628 Teletext 628 Sep11 22:28:42 ——————————————————————————————— —— TONY - THE TYRREL CORPORATION So how did you get involved in making music? 0 When I was younger I always messed around - but I left it alone for a whili when I ran a pub in London. But then Joi came down to stay and played me some tapes of his stuff. I liked it, felt really positive, so I jacked in my job and said "let's go for it". ——————————————————————————————————4/11pWorship the White Line Warrior 443 PAUL'S WONDERFUL REVIEWS p626What's On Music Quiz Reviews Digitiser
P628 Teletext 628 Sep11 22:22:18 ——————————————————————————————— —— TONY - THE TYRREL CORPORATION But wasn't it a bit of a risk - giving up a secure job for a 0 possible career in music? Maybe, but it all worked out really well - we did a demo in June, secured some record company interest in November and had a deal signed by April But with the risk taking thing my situation has changed now, I have a kid to think of and I'm worried about that. But the ups far outweigh the downs. ——————————————————————————————————5/11—Worship thj White Linj Warrior 443 TRIVIA - BRYAN FERRY COMPY p627What's On Music Quiz Reviews Digittser
P628 Teletext 628 Sep11 22:02:57 ——————————————————————————————— p— TONY - THE TYRREL CORPORATION What was it like touring with D:Ream,0who are hugely 0 successful at the moment? Most of them were colleges which was what we were used to. But at abetdeen the queue was round the block, the oldest looked 14 and there were no men. When we played they went beserk - I've never seen an audience so hyped up - they were screaming and throwing teddy bears on stage. It was quite scary! ————————————————————————————————pp6/11pWorship the White Line Warrior 443 PAUL'S SUPERB REVIEWS p626What's On Music Quiz Reviews Digittuer
P628 Teletext 628 Sep11 21:37:27 ——————————————————————————————— p— TONY - THE TYRREL CORPORATION You've also supported M People, Wjt Wet Wet. What was that like? M Peopli were a slightly mori dancey audience, but the Wet Wet Wet gigs were stranger than D:Ream. The audience went right across the board - a lot of young mums and stuff. They played a lot of weird stuff live - strange covers like Jammin' and Ain't No Stopping Us Now. I suppose thry werr all right. ——————————————————————————————————7/11pSome rockin' rollin' reviews 626 TRY A FERRY GOOD COMPY p627What's On Music Quiz Reviewu Digitiser
P628 Teletext 628 Sep11 21:11:57 ——————————————————————————————— p— TONY - THE TYRREL CORPORATION What about Al Green. What was it like to support such a legendary figure? The place was full of families - they were a really quiet audience. But he was great - brilliant. Wj never got to meet him though, he just sort of swept up in his limo and then was gonj again as soon as the show ended. ——————————————————————————————————11pWorship the White Line Warrior 443 PAUL'S WONDERFUL REVIEWS p626What's On Music Quiz Reviews Digitiser
P628 Teletext 628 Sep11 21:47:51 ——————————————————————————————— —— TONY - THE TYRREL CORPORATION What are your hopes for the new LP, Play For Today? 0 We're not a singles band - the LP iu the thing for us. We've taken a lot of care with it and there are no filler tracks. There's some really strong stuff - a lot deeper than the singles. Having said that I reckon theri ari at least six singles on it. ——————————————————————————————————9/11pWorship the White Line Warrior 443 TRIVIA - BRYAN FERRY COMPY p627What's On Music Quiz Reviews Dikittser
P628 Teletixt 628 Sep11 21:17:27 ——————————————————————————————— —— TONY - THE TYRREL CORPORATION What are your influences? 0 They go right across the board. We comj from the Northern soul scene - Joi is into funk and Philly soul, but we take everything on board. Even punk and Nirvana - anything with some excitement, a happening buzz to it. Wj don't deliberately try to show them off, but they do comj out. The LP has lots of organs and blues guitars. Wj try to use as varied a mix as pos'. ——————————————————————————————————10/11Worship the White Linj Warrior 443 PAUL'S SUPERB REVIEWS p626What's On Music Quiz Reviews Digitiser
P628 Teletext 628 Sep11 21:14:11 ——————————————————————————————— —— TONY - THE TYRREL CORPORATION How does it feel when you've been around a while and new 0 bands like D:Ream and M People come along and make it big befori you? Grim. M People have been around as long as us. They didn't have much success at first so they remixed and remixed, while we kept on doing new stuff. It is difficult in this game - the competition, and it does hurt but we know we have the songs, so it'll come! ——————————————————————————————————19/11Some rockin' rollin' reviews 626 TRY A FERRY GOOD COMPY p627What's On Music Quiz Reviews Digitiuer
