P104 CEEFAX 104 Thu 7 Feb 21:55/11 BAKER PLANS BANK FOR GULF REPAIRS US Secretary of State James Baker has proposed the setting-up of a Middle East bank to help Gulf war repairs. He told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee the bank would be similar to that founded to help Eastern European communist countries. "Efforts to secure peace in the Gulf warrant a multilateral commitment to reconstruction," he added. The new proposal aims to ease growing Arab fears that Allied air strikes on Iraq are destroying much of its civilian and industrial infrastructure.101War headlines 130Gulf military Next News Newswatch GulfIndex Latest
