P131 CEEFAX 131 Thu 28 Feb 22:16/31 IRAQI ARMY DESTROYED 1/2 The Iraqi army was effectively destroyed by the Allied onslaught, a US military spokesman has said. Brigadier-General Richard Neal said that all 42 Iraqi divisions in the war zonj had been destroyed, captured or made combat ineffective. He said that a few remnants - perhaps abit more than one division, but not a coherent unit - had reached positions north of the Tigris-Euphrates rivers. P131 CEEFAX 131 Thu 28 Feb 22:23/36 IRAQIS "CAN GO HOME" 2/2 Iraqi soldiers trying to get home are being allowed to do so. US spokesman Brigadier-General Richard Neal said that only Iraqis who attackedor threatened Allied troops would be attacked themselves. Pressed repeatedly by reporters, General Neal said this meant that many Iraqis could take weapons with them. He was insistent, however, that this did not include many heavy weapons suchas T72 tanks.
