Great Auntie Betty, Sailor and the Early Bird have found a map inside an old hat. When they unfold it, it starts to reveal the way to the legendary Kiss Mines of Kroon. Kroon is an underground, singing planet. It is shaped like an old- fashioned singer's head with a mountain for a nose. Sailor leant down and stared at it. "Boy, it's a tough journey Earl, look!" The Early Bird joined Sailor at the table and nodded. The picture of the singing planet of Kroon seemed to be smiling at them. Its eyes - which were really two large, deep blue lakes - shook and shone. "This is all kinda spooky." A faint melody had filled the room. It felt as if their eardrums were being tickled by a musical feather. "It's not me Sailor," replied the Early Bird, "it's the map!" Sailor's mouth fell open. The picture of the planet Kroon had started to sing. "La, di, da, di, dah!" It was the most musical voice the Early Bird and Sailor had ever heard. Great Auntie Betty had me hidden in that hat for years. It's good to be out again. "Now, tra-la, who are the two of you?" "I'm the Early Bird and this is my pal, Sailor," replied the Early Bird. His voice had gone rather high and squeaky. He had never been sung to by a map before. There was a faint tap on the window.
