I think it is very cruel to keep animals in cages. Living in such a a small space must be so boring. But I also love seeing animals. And they are safe in zoos: there are no poachers or nets to be caught in. So should zoos be kept open or closed down. What do you think?" Diary Home News Flash Top Sport
P179 CEEFAX 179 Fri 5 Nov 16:10/21 13/20 FROM NEWSROUND BARN OWLS by HELEN THONLEY from Warrington, Cheshire 86918 Helen writes about the beautiful, endangered Barn Owl. "It is a wonderful white bird. When people see one at night they can think they have seen a ghost! Modern farming has had a bad effect on the owls. There are only 4,500 breeding pairs left in Britain. A scheme in Cheshire breeds and releases them into the wild. But they must only ever be set free by experts." "The Government is encouraging people to have their benefits paid directly into their bank accounts, rather than picking them up from a post office. This could mean a big drop in the village post offices' work. Many sub-post offices could close. And will elderly and other people do if they shut? Local POs are at the heart of a village." P179 CEEFAX 179 Fri 5 Nov 16:10/57 16/20 FROM NEWSROUND WAR REFLECTIONS by JESSICA WATKINS age 13 from Dunbartonshire 34153 Jessica can't understand how people can let arguments result in wars. "Fighting is undoubtedly evil, but the people who fight are not necessarily so. Human instinct has probably been the cause of many wars. At a really basic level - if someone hits you, you feel the urge to hit back. Can we live without war? It is hard to imagine a peaceful world. But I am not happy with "victory" knowing it results from many deaths." Diary Home News Flash Top Sport

"Some breeders inject certain fish with coloured dyes to make them look, and sell, better. The species affected include Glass, Angel fish and Corydoras catfish. They are known as "disco fish" and many of them are injured and die. It is a great shame to see fish that are already beautiful being treated in this way." Diary Home News Flash Top Sport
