Health minister Dr Brian Mawhinney also said he agreed that GPs should not be held responsible for the out-of-hours actions of deputies. He told the British Medical Association that registered family doctors would in future be accountable for their own decisions The BMA stressed that any changes to doctors' duties would not be at the expense of patient care.
