The 44-year-old Scot accepted a telephone invitation to stand again from the Ryder Cup committee while holidaying in Mauritius. He said he had been overwhelmed by support from top players including Nick Faldo, Seve Ballesteros and Bernhard Langer. The 1995 match will be his third in charge of the European team after defeats at Kiawah Island in 1991 and The Belfry two months ago. "I would not be telling the truth if I didn't admit that the thought of going out having lost the Ryder Cup had a bearing on my decision. P321 CEEFAX 321 Fri 26 Nov 16:12/16   GOLF: CUP COMMITTEE  BACK GALLACHER 3/3  Bernard Gallacher has accepted the Ryder Cup captaincy for a third term after receiving unanimous support from the Cup committee. European tour executive director Ken Schofield said the players had the "utmost respect" for Gallacher. "He is a man of great integrity who combines the balance of sportsmanship with the intensity of competition experienced in the Ryder Cup," he added.
