Place flour, sugar, butter, almonds, eggs, baking powder, salt, milk and treacle in bowl and blend or beat until thoroughly smooth - mixing by hand takes about 2-3 mins Stir in cherries, peel, raisins, sultanas and currants, lemon juice and rind and place mixture in prepared tin. Check to see if top is going brown, if it is cover with some greaseproof paper; bake for a further hour. Insert skewer into centre of cake to check whether it is cooked if skewer does not come out completely clean, cake needs 15-20 mins more. Remove cake from oven, leave to cool in tin for 30 mins before turning out onto wire rack. Stores well up to 3 weeks, covered with marzipan and icing or left plain. Method: If using fresh chestnuts, simmer for 10 mins in boiling water If using dried ones, soak overnight and boil for 15-20 mins. Put mixture in large bowl and add turkey or chicken stock. Saute onion and celery in butter, add to bread mixture and season. Add sage and stir in egg. Mix together. Stuff crop of the turkey loosely.
