P115 CEEFAX 115 Fri 17 Dec 16:11/15       HOME  FORMER BR CHAIRMAN REID HAS DIED Sir Robert Reid, the former chairman of British Rail, has died, aged 72. British Rail said Sir Robert died after a long illness. Sir Robert joined the London and North Eastern Railway in 1947 and held a number of posts before being appointed planning manager for the Scottish Region of BR in 1967. Further important positions within BR followed before he became vice- chairman in January 1983 and chairman in September 1983.  Next News World Flash TV/Radio
