P161 CEEFAX 161 Fri 17 Dec 16:12/18       WORLD  VIOLENT PROTESTS IN ARGENTINA Public workers in the Argentinian province of Santiago del Estero are continuing their violent protests against austerity measures. Discontent with the government's economic reform programme - which forces cutbacks in the provinces - has also spread to other poor northern provinces. President Carlos Menem deployed troops to Santiago del Estero to try to stop the protests.
