P193 CEEFAX 193 Fri 17 Dec 16:15/26 1/2 DESPATCH Joshua Rozenberg on new guidelines that drink-drivers who kill should go to jail: Lord Chief Justice Lord Taylor said that the original £250 fine and driving disqualification in the case of Peter Shepherd, 29, who killed two people, was too lenient. He said that apart from exceptional cases, a custodial sentence was appropriate. This reflected public abhorrence at deaths being caused by drivers with excess alcohol, Lord Taylor stated.
