The chairman of one of the UN's sanction committees says Iran has frozen "considerable assets" under the control of Gulbuddin Hekmatyar. His Hezb-e-Islami group is suspected of carrying out attacks on foreign and Afghan forces in Afghanistan. This year, there have been more than 8,500 cases of the disease, which sometimes proves fatal to humans. The figure is an increase of nearly 80% over 2003. He added that he would address the nation to explain his reasons, but did not elaborate. Opponents have been staging protests, calling on him to leave the military.
