What a relief that  Frankie Howerd took no notice  of the New Puritans of TV when  he made Further Up Pompeii. It was as saucy - nay, smutty! - as the original and just as funny. It was even brave enough to take the mickey out of stuttering with its ffff-flipping hilarious Claudius. The eunuch Ambiguous made me laugh and Howerd has lost none of his brilliance at face-pulling and camp asides to the camera. Yes, the plot was ludicrous, the writing not top class. But that was part of its charm. more > TV+ Index 250 Inside TV 252 Inside TV RSVP:tv TV Charts TV Guide

The media hype for any new TV advert from the two main cola companies is always huge. It's so very pathetic. In a new ad, the inclusion of images of dead film actors Louis Armstrong, James Cagney and Humphrey Bogart, is said to have caused a bitter row. Rubbish! It's all just a marketing stunt about something entirely unimportant. more > TV Plus Guide 250 Inside TV 252 ORACLE VIEWERS HOLIDAY OFFERS 378/9 Inside TV RSVP:tv TV Charts TV Guide

Ross has got patter as sharp as his suits, and his guests are usually good value. The only trouble is he crams too much in - Dannii Minogue barely had time to say two words. Still, perhaps we should be thankful for that. If you've got it, flaunt it, say I. Decent guests deserve decent spots - after all, they're the reason the punters are watching. more > TV Plus Guide 250 Inside TV 252 Inside TV RSVP:tv TV Charts TV Guide

Despite a Government enforced move to use a French street cleaning firm, Camden remains the dirtiest borough. Why is this? I don't know. How ghastly. TV at this time of year reflects the sickliness of all the phoney sentiment around us. I have to watch it, because this column maintains a normal weekend service right though the holidays. But you can switch off if you care to - go for a walk, talk to your relatives, read a book. Whatever you do, I wish you happy and peaceful festivities.
