This good-natured family fantasy boasts excellent special effects which clearly took up much of the $27 million budget. German director Wolfgang Petersen shows a keen imagination and genuine sense of wonder, giving a magical feeling to the proceedings. Youngsters will love it. P258 ORACLE 258 Sun22 Dec ANG 1914:53    W   SUNDAY 23.55  REAR WINDOW (1954) James Stewart, Grace Kelly Photographer Stewart witnesses a murder in an apartment opposite his flat but can't convince anyone he has seen it. This is one of the most enjoyable and inventive of Hitchcock thrillers, with stylish writing and direction. A white-haired Raymond Burr appears as the killer and suspense is impeccably built up. P258 ORACLE 258 Sun22 Dec ANG 1916:29    W   MONDAY 01.25  UN HOMME ET UNE FEMME (1966) Jean-Louis Trintignant, Anouk Aimee Widowed racing driver Trintignant meets widowed Aimee when they are in Deauville visiting their children, in a smart but rather artificial drama. The chic love story is told by director Claude Lelouch in beautiful advertising style images. Shallow? Perhaps but his effort won a Best Foreign Film Oscar. It's strong on charm if less convincing in its obvious characterisation. But it is deftly acted. The music was a smash. P258 ORACLE 258 Sun22 Dec ANG 1917:25    W   MONDAY 04.15  HELLINGER'S LAW (TVM 1981) Telly Savalas, Rod Taylor Another pilot for a series which failed to fly finds Savalas, fresh from Kojak, as a larger-than-life criminal lawyer. Savalas is delighted when a local crime syndicate doubles his regular fee to get him to defend a Mafia accountant accused of murdering a TV personality. It's slickly directed by Leo Penn whose now-famous son Sean gets an early role. There's an interesting supporting cast.
