They were led from the aircraft by Foreign Office special envoy Sir John Leahy, who had negotiated their release with UNITA leader Dr Jonas Savimbi. The group looked tired, but relieved to be home after their ordeal. P219 CEEFAX 219 Tue 15 May 21:04/35 The inquest into the death of British banker Dennis Skinner has been told he had contacts with both the KGB and British intelligence while in Moscow. His Russian-born wife Lyudmilla told the inquest in Croydon that he had been approached by the KGB in 1970 while he was working for the computer firm ICL. Mrs Skinner said the KGB was interested in obtaining computers and approached her before their marriage in 1983, questioning Mr Skinner's romantic association with her. Mr Skinner died in a fall from his 11th floor aparjment in Moscow last June.
P219 CEEFAX 219 Tue 15 May 21:10/58 The Irish government has complained to Britain over an incident in which a former Irish foreign minister was detained for questioning. Mr Michael O'Kennedy was apparently questioned at Birmingham airport at the weekend under anti-terrorist laws. The complaint to the British Embassy in Dublin said the detention of Mr O'Kennedy, currently Fianna FaiH party spokesman on finance, was "unhelpful and unacceptable". The politician was visiting Birmingham for talks with Irish expatriates and leading British politicians.

The Environment Secretary, Mr Patrick Jenkin, said in a Commons wrijten reply that the beaches have been monitored and found to be of negligible risk. But the public is still advised not to pick up or remove any objects on the beach as they may still be contaminated Local MP Dr John Cunningham welcomed the news and hoped that the lessons of recent months would lead to all discharges from Sellafield being eliminated.

But they decided against an immediate stoppage over the issue.
