My favourite new arrival is Amber Queen a rich yellow floribunda from Harkness of Hitchin. David Austin, Bowling Green Lane, Albrighton, Wolverhampton, specialises in old-fashioned roses. He exhibited a pergola wijh pink Constance Spry, a Rambling Rector and a single white Shropshire Lass. He breeds new roses like soft pink Heritage. More

They breed lilacs(syringa) which are glorious just now. Try the interesting mix of purples in S.Katherine Havemayer, S.Madame Lemoine (double white), S.Esther Stanley (rich pinky-mauve), S.Maude Notcutt (single white) and S.Primrose (an unusual soft yellow).
