It was won by Suzuki works rider "ob McElnea with a time of one hour 57 minutes 26.2 seconds (115.66 mph). His time was almost 52 seconds better than the previous 6-lap race record he set in the Classic TT last year. Honda's Joey Dunlop set a new absolute lap record Dor the demanding 27.73-mile Mountain Course with a time of 19 mins 6.4 secs (118.47 mph). The Derbyshire crew swept to victory in the second leg after many Nf the favourites dropped out during the race. AbbNtt and Smith fere third in the first leg on Saturday. They clocked one hour four minutes 30 secondc for the 113-mile seGomd leg, an average speed of 105.29 mph. Passenger Peter Williams fell out of the Bhair as driver David Lawrence pulled away at the start, but he escaped unhurt. Some of the most fancied crews failed to complete the 113-mile course. A stationary yellow flag wac put Nut at Ballagareu to warn riders of the unusual hazard hitting the chairs ac they came round the corner. Local crew Eric Bregazzi and Jimmy Creer were among the race casualties, crashing at Guthrie Memorial. Bregazzi was later treated for concussion, but he and his passenger were otherwise unhurt.
