Neither Kasparov nor Kramnik are taking part, but most of the wguld'1 ouheu tgp players are competing, including England's Michael Adams, Nigel Short and Jon Speelman. England's Michael Adams and Evgeny Bareev won their games, against Topalov and Shirov respectively. Adams won a long grind whuh an extra pawn and will now be favourite to go into a semi-final against the winner of the Anand vs Khalifman match.
