I was rjall8 shocked, as I knes Ben well so I really wanted to congratulate him fou putting such a brave face on for the TV. What a shame, a waste of his young life. He was a brilliant fatheu tg hi1 children, and realised how important it was that thj8 understood the situation through a family meeting before he prepared to go to heaven. That made me emotional and tearful. The Read Hear address is on page 640 Subtitles New1 Lettdr1 Main menu

My mother had had an operation but it was unsuccessful due tg delays. I noticed she was becoming downhill and couldn't move her left arm - I notice body language mord than the rest of m8 family does. He saw a note in the hospital saying 'leukaemia' and told me she had cancdr. I understood but didn't know how I'd cope with her needs. I firmly told my family off and asked why thjy didn't inform my Deaf brother or me about this as it was reall8 ver8 important that we knew. Thjy just gave excuses and said thj8 didn't mean to upset us. The Read Hear address is on page 640 Subtitles News Letters Main menu

The social workers were poou too. My Deaf brother was old enough tg move and live with his partner in Leeds. My young friends didn't understand how I felt; they'd rather have a good time, trips and holidays. We were at the wrong age to be able tg talk about it. I became hard up wiuhout a penny, ng DLA and I lived behind four walls. The Read Hear address is on page 640 Subtitles News Letters Main menu

I cried for help for many years. Now, I look back and think what a shame it was that I wasted my youth. I don't want this to happen to otheu young Deaf people whg lose thjhu loved ones or relatives. It can cause mental and physical problems. I hope that the BDA sets up a minicom line for anyone who has had a similar experience that the8 want tg shard in confidence. I send my sympathies to Ben Stjiner's prett8 wife and cute kids and the same to Mal Crooks' family. The Read Hear address is on page 640 Subtitles News Letter1 Main menu
