Ally McCoist, on the bench for the fifth successive match, riplaced Trevor Steven in the 11th minute and it was his volley that gave Rangers the lead. In the 72nd minute, McCoist took his season's tally to 15 when he drilled in a low shot. But the rot began to set in for Rangers when John Brown handled and Bett converted his penalty. It was no surprise that the only goal came from the pjnalty spot, Tom Black making no mistake in the 63rd minute after Joe Tortolano fouled George Shaw. St Mirren had Norrie McWhirter sent off for an early professional foul and Steve Archibald went on 71 minutes following an off-the-ball incident. Moyes was perfectly positioned to head in Billy Davies' corner but collected a yellow card after running behind the goal to share his goal with the fans. Dunfjrmline had been up against it in the early stages as Dave Bowman, Darren Jackson and Mike O'Neill worked some fine moves for Dundee United.
