The National Trust has a border at Charlecote in Warwickshire with all the plants mentioned in Shakespeare's plays. Who first had this idea and why? The lecture will be introduced by the National Trust's Chief Agent, Julian Prideaux. Many National Trust gardens have special openings during February and March to show off their snowdrops, crocuses and other spring flowers. Last year 22,500 visitors went to Kingston Lacy, at Wimborne Minster in Dorset during two snowdrop weekends. The house was built c1610, then redecorated and furnished in the 1670s by the Duke and Duchess of Lauderdale. It has a restored 17th century garden. The interior features ceiling murals by Verrio and a collection of late 17th century furniture and paintings.
