P145 CEEFAX 145 Fri 26 Feb 21:02/40 PARLIAMENT GOVERNMENT PAID PRIVATE DETECTIVES Private detectives were paid by the Government to tackle demonstrators on Twyford Down in Hampshire, the roads minister has told MPs. Kenneth Carlisle said they were paid £7,000 to photograph and serve notices on trespassing protesters. But he denied that they were paid to examine the backgrounds of campaigners fighting plans to build the M3 extension across the Down. The civil rights group Liberty has called for a judicial review of policing on the Down. Flash World Main News BBC2 TV
