P247 CEEFAX 247 Fri 26 Feb 21:22/29 2/2 FOREX REPORT CLOSE Sterling eased from session highs but remained underpinned by rising expectations of near-term cut in domestic German interest rates. At 1730 it was fetching $1.4210 and DM 2.3355, after 1.4290 and 2.3345 at yesterday's London close. This compares with the record mark low of DM 2.3140 hit on Wednesday. According to Barclays Bank's Peter Luxton, a German interest rate cut was unlikely to occur before the middle of March. But if no cut came then ERM tensions would re-emerge.
