P325 CEEFAX 325 Fri 5 Mar 21:21/57   1/4  ATHLETICS: LIFE BAN FOR  JOHNSON  Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson has been banned for life after failing a drugs test for a second time. He tested positive for testosterone at an indoor meeting in Montreal in January, the international Amateur Athletics Federation confirmed. IAAF general secretary Istvan Gyulai said Johnson was "ineligible for life", pending a full hearing before Canadian athletics chiefs. P325 CEEFAX 325 Fri 5 Mar 21:11/35   2/4  ATHLETICS: NO DOUBT OVER  JOHNSON TEST, SAY IAAF  Ben Johnson faces a life ban from the sport after a "clear-cut" breach of anti-doping regulations. Dr Arne Ljungqvist, chairman of the IAAF's doping commission, said he saw no reason for the results of their tests to be contested. "This is a clear-cut case of testosterone doping. We are very sad this man is guilty," he said. P325 CEEFAX 325 Fri 5 Mar 21:02/21   3/4  ATHLETICS: JOHNSON  MAINTAINS INNOCENCE  Sprinter Ben Johnson, banned for life for a second doping offence, maintains he has not used banned drugs since his 1988 suspension. A statement issued by his lawyers stated: "Mr Johnson stands by his earlier statement that he has taken no prohibited substances and has engaged in no improper practices." Johnson's lawyers are to make a further statement at a news conference on Sunday.
