He shared stands of 67 with Manoj Prabhakar (73) and 79 with Sachin Tendulkar and kept his head when England took three late wickets. Kiran More ended the match with a four over mid-wicket off Dermot Reeve to square the series 3-3. Graeme Hick earlier made a superb 105 not out in England's 265-4 but his effort was all in vain.  Scorecards/bowling figures on 341 England A Ind v Eng NZ v Aus Sri Lanka

"When Azhar is in that sort of mood it is difficult to contain him. He picks the gaps so well - you plug one and another appears," he said. "But there is no shame in losing either of these last two games. We just couldn't get the little break we needed in either of them." Gooch will now fly home, leaving Alec Stewart to lead the team on the Sri Lankan leg of their trip.  England A Ind v Eng NZ v Aus Sri Lanka
