Software Archive Work

This page is the "portal" to all and any work I do in the world of software preservation. See the sub-project headings below to see individual sections.

Shareware

A mixture of shareware tiles I have recovered and made available via the Internet Archive.

Some of them can even be emulated within your web browser!

Video Games Index

A work in progress table of where to find various video game demos on various mediums, mostly cover-mount discs.

Recovery Images

If you're like me then there is a particular glory to using a computer system as it would have been experienced fresh out of the box. The only real way of being able to achieve this experience is to use a recovery image or restore media pack. Reinstalling not just the operating system, drivers and all of the third-party applications specific to that unit.

There are a lot of these recovery images already available online, but there's plenty of devices which are still missing; so to try and remedy this I upload images wherever possible..

Adventures with WINE

As a hoarder of old Windows software there is a question of what can you really do with it? Microsoft are on a collision course to stop supporting a lot of these older titles and so there are bookshelves across the world full of old CD and DVD-ROMS containing software that is seemingly unusable.

However as someone who likes to dip in and out of the world of Linux I came to realise that the WINE utility might be able to give some of these old software titles a new purpose, without the need of running old operating systems or virtual machines.
