P162 Teletext 162 Aug30 21:15:14 ———————————————————————————————————————■ Band name anagrams? Ooh, I'vi got one. The Darkness — overrated. OK, perhaps not an anagram but true nonetheless. I'm beginning to doubt the quality of my hearing. Have too many gigs damaged my eardrums, leaving me incapable of hearing the true greatness of these '70s wannabes? I doubt it. BloodDoll ■ In answer to the Void enquiring aboutRolling Dog, theyWre a superb indie band from Gosport. Check the great rollingdog.co.uk site. P162 Teletext 162 Aug30 21:12:14 ———————————————————————————————————————■ On the superb Juice UK radio station,I heard a UK hip hop track with the line "Ms Dynamite's let fame go to her head" along with dissing of the garage scene, Blazin' Squad and the United Colours Of Benetton ad that isSugababes. Hilarious, but anyone knowwho it's by? Is it Deep? Rhimes ■ How could Damon Albarn get huffy whenhe was interviewed about Blur v Oasisin Live Forever? Is he so deluded he thought a Britpop film wasn't going to broach it? More nostalgia — he IS Kevin The Teenager. P162 Teletext 162 Aug30 21:19:34 ——————————————————————————————————————→■ Since PS didn't give its customary "Reading in quotes" this year, here are two of mine. "It almost makes me cry, seeing so many people singing the words to our songs." (The Used) "These are the kind of awkward silences we feed on." (Jason Lytle, Grandaddy) The Torture Garden ■ Julian Casablancas admits The Strokessuck? For once, I completely agree with him. His head is on sideways andthe head movements really annoy me, as do those of David Gray, Chris Martin and Thom Yorke. P162 Teletext 162 Aug30 21:16:13 ———————————————————————————————————————■ Damon Albarn was a twit in Live Forever but so were the Gallaghers. Noel needs to get over the fact that Oasis were the biggest band in the UK— not the world. The film was made too soon and had little sense of narrative. It just moved along for a while then ended. Ian Larsen ■ Wasn't Damon Albarn profound pluckinghis ukeleli in Live Forever? Er, no, he resembled a Britpop George Formby. That's Song 2 for you. "Mr Wu hoo! When he feels heavy metal." P162 Teletext 162 Aug30 21:10:17 ———————————————————————————————————————■ Live Forever was as determined as themedia to build up Britpop. It was just good music, and occasionally more people "get" something than theyusually do. I was at The Stone RosesW Spike Island gig that opened the film. Theyhad a reputation for rubbish gigs, and that was another one. I was 17 and the day was long and frustrating yet ultimately memorable. But more memorable was the Manics gig I went to a fortnight earlier. Reallyisme ——————————————————————————————————6/10—Sounds' index 160Jill Speedway 152 R U a text Flirt? For more info, see lauraoconnor.co.uk Laura O'Connor ■ The real reason Jodie Marsh was booedat the Kerrang! Awards was that she has no discernible connection to music. Fans — male and female — took exception to being palmed off with a celeb of such dubious status. Segue Ros Fan is being hypocritical. P162 Teletext 162 Aug30 21:14:54 ———————————————————————————————————————■ Who was responsible for choosing thisyear's Carting line-up? When The White Stripes pulled out, it left only Metallica, SOAD and the refreshing Darkness as the good bands. I won't go to V on principle, as they seem to put whatever is pop flavour of the month on the bill. This just leaves Glasto, which sold out in 30 seconds flat. Nick The Mane Void: Wi thought Carting looked rank too, until we got there — and saw a stack of largely unknown bands. It was great for anyone experimenting. —————————————————————————————————8/10—— The charts 165 STOP OFF AT GAMECENTRAL p175FTC Reviews Sauce Racing
