Share buy-backs were the main focus of equity markets. The Boots buy-back led to speculation that other retailers such as Argos and GUS would follow. National Power also revealed its plans which should help February's share offer. Those with low PE's and strong asset backing include Ann Street, Shepherd Neame, Surrey Free Inns and, following a capital shake-up, Unicorn Inns. Other modestly rated brewers include George Gale, Hyde's Anvil, St Austell, Daniel Thwaites and Wadworth. Although these shares offer good value for money they may be difficult to trade. P206 CEEFAX 206 Sat 19 Nov 15:04/11   4/8  CEEFAX STOCK  MARKET PANEL  Barry Frieslander Fairmount Group/Bolton  FT-SE (3127.5): This week's 0.75% rate increase by the Fed has yet to be fully digested by world markets, One way or the other equities will not make appreciable gains without the support of bonds. We will have to wait and see if the Chancellor's Budget on Tuesday 29 November will benefit our own bond market. The outlook is positive. Traded option dealers should consider opening put options around current levels looking for a re-test of the 135-40p range. Long term, as pointed out in April, the outlook is quietly positive. Buy the share and/or open traded option call positions around 195p, but with a stop-loss at 175p, looking for a resumption in the uptrend. P206 CEEFAX 206 Sat 19 Nov 15:02/12   7/8  CEEFAX STOCK  MARKET PANEL  Simon Weighell Adams & Nevile/London  Overview: The market read the Federal Reserve's 0.75% rate rise as a satisfactory compromise - a half point would have been too little and a full point would have appeared panic-driven.   The upward revision to UK third quarter growth to 0.9% implies 4.2% annualised growth - too high. The company will see a healthy recovery in its cyclical businesses in the medium term. The channel tunnel start-up will impact short- term earnings, but the company remains a strong buy.   Farnell Electronics (528p) will also see recovery in its European and UK operations and increased margins at Multicomponents, a recent purchase.
