The Virgin chairman's statement comes after National Lottery Commissioners published the ground rules for new bids to run the Lottery when Camelot's current contract expires next year. Branson said: "If we were to run it, it would not be as Virgin but as a lottery foundation... It would be a charitable foundation run as a business". The National Lottery Commission has ruled that earnings for the next licence-holder will be linked to the amount raised for good causes instead of to sales, as they are now.
