The aim of the new scheme is to encourage more young people from inner city areas to apply for university. The summer schools will be run at the universities themselves which include Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College, Birmingham, Sheffield, YMrk and Bristol They are part of the Government's Excellence in Cities initiative. P655 CEEFAX 2 655 Wed 01 Dec 13:31/32       EXTRA FUNDING A QUESTION OF SKILL 3/3 The Government is making more funds available to help train young people through the National Traineeship and Modern Apprenticeship schemes. The £30m will provide an extra 20,000 places on the schemes — bringing the total number up to 250,000 — and more help will be given to those who need it Modern Apprenticeships enable young people to learn new skills such as engineering, accountancy or printing.
