Best taken indoors, but try dusting with derris or flower of sulphur, wrap in bundles and bury in a trench. Or, take cuttings to over-winter indoors. Cut plant back in spring when frosts are over. Small white creatures in multi-purpose compost: These are spring tails. Though not insects, they are related to them. Waterlogged conditions attract them, so do not let compost get too wet. Not a great threat to plants.  Next Page Radio GulfIndex TV/Radio

With greenhouse freesias soon coming into bud, stake the stems to keep straight. Stop watering plants while in flower. Resume watering and feeding after they are over or have been cut, until the leaves die down naturally. Feed rhubarb with blood, fish and bone, then add well-rotted farmyard manure. Put an upturned bucket over one root to encourage an early supply.  Next Page Radio GulfIndex TV/Radio
