P105 CEEFAX 105 Thu 7 Mar 21:53/18   IRAQI TROOPS "BESIEGE"  HOLY CITIES An Iraqi opposition spokesman has said troops loyal to Saddam Hussein are besieging the holy Shi'ite Muslim cities of Najaf and Karbala. Mohammed Hussein al-Tajer of the Islamic Action Organisation said Iraqi army units were preparing to suppress a popular uprising against the president. Meanwhile a Kurdish opposition official has claimed 34 Iraqi army officers and several regiments have surrendered to Kurdish rebels in northern Iraq.
