The judge said social workers should not remove children from the family home before they have taken expert advice from child psychologists or psychiatrists. He said if children had to be removed, they should be taken from their homes at the end of a school day. It was "potentially harmful" for them to be removed early in the morning, as happened in the Rochdale case, he said. 160 Politics 180 World News Next News News Plus Politics Headlines

He said the policy of the Greater Manchester Chief Constable, Sir James Anderton, not to videotape interviews was "singularly unhelpful for the children concerned" and should cease. Failing that, social workers should be ready to act independently of the police in taping interviews, he said. Mr Justice Brown said affidavits from all parties must be accurate, balanced and fair. In this case, they were not. 160 Politics 180 World News Next News News Plus Politics Headlines
