Olympic champion Ereng broke Sebastian Coe's world record of 1:44.91 by seven hundredths of a second at the 1989 world indoor championships in Budapest. Ereng feels he is in better shape now than when he broke the record and warned that he would be attempting to break it again from the first round. "If the race goes fast from the beginning, I think I can do it again," said the confident Kenyan. 375 British hopes 377 British team Next Page Preview 1 Football Headlines

Ottey clocked 22.24 seconds to shave three hundredths of a second off the previous best set by Heike Dreschler of the old East Germany four years ago. The 30-year-old also ran 7.04 secs in the 60m and will start as favourite in both races at the championships. She may come up against Britain's Stephanie Douglas and Beverley Kinch in the 60m and Simone Jacobs in the longer distance.  Next Page Preview 1 Football Headlines

She won three golds there but is yet to upstage Merlene Ottey in the 100m and 200m distances. She ran 7.06 seconds in the 60m three weeks ago, but withdrew - unwell - from an important meeting in Germany last weekend. But at 21, nine years Ottey's junior, she may still shave off the two hundredths of a second advantage the Jamaican holds over her in the 60m.  Next Page Preview 1 Football Headlines
