Known among the other prospectors for his devil-may-care attitude to illegal mining, Jjova had made somj lucky strikes in the past and intended to find more gold. The result was the murder of the poor prospectors by security police. Only a few of the freelance miners struck lucky while the rest (including Jeova) faced a future of increased hardship. And the events behind each story are not always clear. The viewer is bowled over by a landslide of facts and details which obscure an otherwise remarkable documentary. In the end, Jeova's sad plight is overshadowed by the danger to marine life from mercury, wood-burning for the pig-iron industry and corruption.
